Do you need dentures and are wondering whether to opt for a fixed or removable solution?
In our blog, you can find out why fixed dentures are generally more suitable. We also tell you why treatment in our Vienna practice is often possible in a short time.

What are fixed dentures?

Fixed dentures are crowns, bridges and prostheses that remain permanently in the mouth and cannot usually be removed.

How are dentures fixed?

The dentures are either connected to the natural teeth or attached to dental implants. This is the solution we recommend for tooth loss. Depending on what you want, we use dental implants to replace individual or several missing teeth at once. We can even restore the original situation in a toothless jaw with the help of dental implants. Your new teeth will hold securely when you speak, laugh or bite into a crispy roll. Nothing wobbles or slips.

Even small tooth defects can be perfectly compensated for with fixed dentures. Inlays are fillings that we bond to the damaged surface of the tooth. For example, to close a cavity.

What are removable dentures?

By removable dentures, we mean anything that is not permanently bonded to the teeth or connected to a dental implant in the jaw. This can make sense in individual cases – for example, if you prefer to hold your dentures in your hand to clean them. In principle, however, implant-supported dentures are always preferable.

Removable dentures include, for example, partial dentures and full dentures for the edentulous jaw.

Are you familiar with hybrid dentures? This is a combination of fixed and removable dentures

A special form of dental prosthesis is the so-called hybrid prosthesis, often referred to as a telescopic prosthesis. It combines fixed and removable dentures.

The fixed element is fixed with dental implants or on the natural teeth. The dental bridge is removable and consists of telescopic crowns that can be slid onto the fixed part like a slide. The telescopic prosthesis or hybrid prosthesis is suitable for both the lower jaw and the upper jaw.

What are the advantages of fixed dentures on implants?

Fixed dentures on implants offer you all the advantages that you also enjoy with natural teeth. What exactly are they?

  • You eat everything you want
  • They chew and speak naturally
  • Your smile looks attractive and healthy
  • Further degradation of the jawbone is prevented
  • The dentures feel good in the mouth
  • They bite safely into hard food
  • No pressure marks on the oral mucosa

In addition to function – i.e. how the teeth feel when eating and speaking – aesthetics also play a role, of course. Put simply, how the teeth look in the mouth. At our practice in Vienna, we recommend ceramic dentures to our patients.

The material is used for dental crowns and bridges, for example, when we want to replace individual teeth or several missing teeth in an aesthetically pleasing way. To do this, we place the ceramic crown or bridge on the implant and close the gap naturally and beautifully.

How long does the treatment with fixed dentures take?

This depends on how many teeth we need to replace and with what type of dentures. Fillings and crowns can be fitted in a relatively short time – often even in one appointment. Complex implant treatment, on the other hand, can take several months. Have you heard of the “All-on-4” treatment method? You may also know the treatment as “fixed teeth in one day”.

We will be happy to explain what it is all about: All-on-4 or All-on-6 is a special concept that allows you to receive fixed dentures on four to six implants in a short space of time. Bone augmentation and implant placement usually take place in one treatment step. You leave the practice a short time later with fixed teeth in your mouth.

Would you like to know how the All-on-4 treatment can help you bite safely and happily again after a short time?

Here we explain step by step in a video how we insert your fixed teeth:

How much do fixed dentures on implants cost?

That is very difficult to say. The prices for fixed dentures depend largely on how many teeth we are replacing and with which materials. In principle, treatment with fixed dentures is not a standard treatment and therefore not a service that is covered by statutory health insurance. In exceptional cases, the health insurance company will provide a subsidy. We will be happy to draw up a treatment and cost plan for you so that you can plan ahead.
