You know that we attach great importance to preserving your natural teeth. It is no different with dental implants and dentures. After the implantation, we are there for you with special preventive measures. We explain how we support you with implant prophylaxis here.
Teeth need care – so do dental implants and dentures!
Certainly, a dental implant cannot become diseased or inflamed. Implant prophylaxis is more about the environment in which the implant is located in the jawbone. The tooth bed and the jawbone are where inflammation can become a problem.
Risk factor peri-implantitis
In the case of peri-implantitis, the tissue around the artificial tooth root becomes inflamed. The inflammation is similar to periodontitis on natural teeth. Both diseases are caused by bacteria and lead to bone loss. The further the inflammation progresses, the weaker the bone becomes. It can no longer hold the implant. It is lost.
Look out for symptoms such as
- Heavy bleeding of the gums (tendency to bleed)
- Swollen oral mucosa
- Bad breath
- Bad taste in the mouth
- Already loosened teeth
It’s good that you are informed about implant prophylaxis. With the right measures, we can prevent peri-implantitis and ensure that your implant is firmly and securely in place in a healthy environment.

How do I keep my dentures for a long time?
After implantation, we regularly check whether your implant has healed safely. We also thoroughly clean the implant and the dentures.
Professional tooth and implant cleaning
You have probably already had your teeth professionally cleaned. We extend the procedure for implant prophylaxis. We clean dentures and dental implants at the same time. That’s why we call it “professional tooth and implant cleaning”, or PZIR for short.
A specially trained oral hygienist takes care of this for you. Using professional tools, she removes plaque where the toothbrush reaches its limits. One such place is between the dental implant and the gums, for example. Dental plaque often collects here, increasing the risk of inflammation. The PZIR gets to the root of the plaque.
This is how the PZIR works in our ordi:
- Examination: We take a look at your teeth and dentures and document your oral health status. This helps us to better monitor your success.
- Staining: Now we want to see where plaque is hiding. To do this, we apply a dye that clearly shows us the plaque.
- Cleaning: We use professional tools to clean plaque from your teeth and dental implants. We also remove stubborn tartar. We then clean the spaces between your teeth with dental floss or a floss. You do not have to take your dentures out of your mouth for cleaning.
- Polishing: We polish teeth and dentures with a special paste so that bacteria adhere less quickly. We then brush everything with a fluoride varnish.
- Inform: Finally, we will give you tips on how to optimally clean your dentures at home. We will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about proper nutrition.
Regular checks
Depending on your individual health status, we see you two to three times a year for dental and implant cleaning and check-ups. What happens during the check-up?
We make sure that your implant grows into the jaw undisturbed. X-rays show us exactly whether everything is in order around the implant.
Parameters such as the depth of the gum pockets (probing depth) tell us how your oral health is doing and whether there is any inflammation.
Ozone therapy for implant aftercare
We use ozone therapy to accelerate wound healing after implantation. Ozone is a gas and is also known as “super oxygen”. Ozone therapy activates metabolic processes and alleviates discomfort. Implants heal faster.
Thorough care at home too
Intensive oral hygiene at home rounds off the implant prophylaxis in our practice.
Here are a few tips for implant care at home:
- Use a soft toothbrush and a toothpaste with few cleaning agents
- Clean the spaces between your teeth with special brushes or dental floss
- Avoid smoking if possible
Do you want dentures that sit firmly in the mouth and are easy to clean?
