We take your dental anxiety seriously

You are not alone: facts and figures on dental phobia

Around 60-80% of Austrians feel nervous at the dentist, 10-15% suffer from severe dental phobia. These fears are often caused by childhood experiences or negative experiences. The good news is that dental anxiety is widespread, but can be overcome with the right dental team and treatment options tailored to your individual needs.

What dental anxiety does to your body

Dental anxiety doesn't just manifest itself in the mind, but in the whole body. Many anxious patients experience palpitations, trembling, sweating or nausea days before their dental appointment. These physical symptoms are an expression of a deep-rooted stress reaction that has arisen in many patients as a result of traumatic treatment in childhood.

Knowledge: Treatment with dental anxiety

Transparency creates trust. Find out what you can expect from your dental treatment and how we respond to your individual needs.

Will I be treated at the first appointment?

No, absolutely not. The initial consultation at our dental practice in Vienna is exclusively for the purpose of getting to know each other and building trust. We take the time to take a detailed medical history, discuss your fears and draw up a treatment plan together. You decide when you are ready for the first procedure.

Can I take an accompanying person with me to the treatment?

Yes, you are welcome to bring someone you trust with you, as this gives many anxious patients additional security. Your companion can stay by your side during the entire appointment. Emotional support is particularly valuable during the initial consultation and for major procedures under sedation or anesthesia.

What happens if I have a panic attack during treatment?

We stop the treatment immediately and take care of you. Our team is trained in dealing with panic attacks.

You can:

  • Give an agreed hand signal
  • Say “stop” loudly
  • Raise your hand

Then: take a deep breath, drink water, calm down. We will only continue if you want us to.

How long does it take for the anesthesia to wear off after the treatment?

This depends on the anesthetic procedure. After twilight sleep or general anesthesia, you will need about 2-4 hours to recover. You are not allowed to drive yourself afterwards, an accompanying person should take you home.

Adult anxiety patients

Whether you are slightly nervous or have had a dental phobia for decades, we will meet you where you are. Our treatment of anxiety patients specializes in individual solutions for every type of anxiety.

Understand your dental anxiety - the first step towards a cure

The better you know your fear, the easier it is to treat. We explain the different stages of dental phobia.

Slight nervousness

You feel a little uneasy before your dental appointment, but a visit to the dentist is manageable. Slight nervousness is completely normal and affects most people. A calm conversation, transparent explanations and a pleasant atmosphere are often enough to put you at ease. Together we can create a stress-free process.

Moderate fear

Your anxiety is stronger: you put off appointments, brood days in advance and experience physical symptoms such as a racing heart. Gentle methods such as sedative drops or conversation-based anxiety management can help here. You remain conscious but feel much more relaxed during your dental treatment.

Dental phobia (severe anxiety)

Have you been avoiding visits to the dentist for years, even when you have toothache? This is dental phobia, a serious anxiety disorder. Traumatic experiences are often the cause. We offer treatment under general anesthesia so that you can find your way back to healthy teeth and avoid tooth loss.

Why anxious patients trust us

Our dental team understands your fears from many years of experience. We treat you not only medically, but also humanely, with patience and understanding.

The patient is cared for during the treatment

If you don't like going to the dentist, I can only recommend this one - clean work, completely pain-free, and most importantly - the patient is cared for during the treatment instead of just drilling away. I don't know how he does it, but it works.

I can HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Dr. Quidenus is competent and friendly. He has new machines and I think that makes a big difference. I didn't have anything serious, just fillings, but I still felt very comfortable in the practice. The whole team is extremely nice and helpful.

Costs of treatment for anxiety patients

The cost of dental treatment under general anesthesia or sedation varies depending on the extent of the procedure and the sedation method chosen. At our dental practice, we will advise you transparently about all the costs involved before you make your decision.

Our practice is an elective practice. This means that we do not have a direct contractual relationship with ÖGK, but you will receive a detailed fee note after your treatment. You can submit this to your health insurance company and will usually be reimbursed 80% of the health insurance tariff. Private supplementary insurances often cover further parts of the costs or even the entire bill – check your insurance cover in advance.

However, sedation procedures such as nitrous oxide, twilight sleep or general anesthesia for dental anxiety are usually considered private services and are not covered by statutory health insurance. There are exceptions in cases of medical necessity – talk to us and we will help you clarify the situation.

We know: High-quality treatments for anxiety patients can be cost-intensive. That’s why we offer flexible financing options and installment payments. So you can restore your dental health without overburdening yourself financially. Give us a call. We will discuss together which solution is right for you and provide you with a non-binding cost estimate.

That’s why he has specialized specifically in treating anxious patients, with one clear goal: to make you feel more confident every time you visit the dentist than the last.

“I meet every anxious patient where they are. Some just need a calm conversation, others general anesthesia. Both are fine. What’s important to me is that you can laugh again without any pain or shame.”

Before the appointment:
