Making the right decision for your dental health

You are at the dentist and hear the diagnosis: the root-treated tooth is no longer stable enough, or the gap should be closed. The pain phase is already behind you, but now a new challenge begins: deciding on the right tooth replacement. Crown, bridge or implant? All-ceramic or zirconia? We understand your situation.

At our practice in Vienna’s 1st district, we provide comprehensive advice on all forms of fixed dentures. You will receive a detailed treatment plan with a transparent cost breakdown and learn about the differences between dental crowns, dental bridges and implant-supported dentures. Together we will find the solution that is medically optimal and suits your life.

Types of dentures: Which do you need?

The most important information on materials and costs and for your decision about dentures in Vienna.

Fixed dentures: when stability counts

Fixed dentures offer maximum stability and feel like your own teeth. This category includes dental crowns, dental bridges, inlays and onlays as well as implant-supported dentures. These solutions are permanently fixed in the mouth and cannot be removed.

Advantages of fixed dentures:

  • Natural chewing sensation without movement
  • Optimum support when eating and speaking
  • No daily removal required
  • Long durability with good care
  • Aesthetically almost indistinguishable from a natural tooth

Removable dentures: flexible solutions for every need

Removable dentures are particularly suitable if several teeth are missing or if fixed solutions are not possible for medical reasons. Partial dentures replace one or more teeth, while full dentures are used when there are no teeth left.

When removable dentures are the right choice:

  • When several teeth are missing in different areas
  • With advanced bone resorption in the jaw
  • As a more cost-effective alternative to implants
  • If easy cleaning is required

Combined dentures: the best of both worlds

Combined dentures combine fixed and removable elements. Telescopic dentures, for example, are attached to specially prepared teeth or implants and offer significantly better support than purely removable solutions. This variant is particularly popular with patients who want more stability but also want to remove the prosthesis for cleaning.

Implant-supported dentures are another option. Several implants are placed in the upper or lower jaw, on which the denture is securely anchored. The result is significantly more comfort when chewing and speaking than with conventional full dentures.

Modern dentures in one day thanks to CAD/CAM CEREC technology

With the innovative CEREC procedure, you receive high-quality, computer-aided dental restorations such as crowns or inlays in just one session. A digital scan replaces the classic impression and enables precise fabrication directly on site, so that you leave the practice with a perfect smile straight away.

Dental bridges, dental crowns, inlays & onlays, veneers

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 2

Dental crowns

A crown completely encases a severely damaged tooth and protects it from further decay. We offer all-ceramic, zirconium oxide and metal-ceramic for a natural look and long durability.

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 10

Dental bridges

Dental bridges close a gap between teeth by attaching them to the neighboring teeth. Crowns and bridges form a fixed unit that allows you to chew and speak just like with real teeth.

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 3

Inlays & onlays

For minor tooth damage, inlays and onlays made of ceramic or gold are the ideal alternative to fillings. They preserve more natural tooth substance and adapt perfectly to your tooth.

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 8

Veneers

Veneers are wafer-thin ceramic shells for the front teeth that correct discoloration, gaps or slight misalignments. They improve the aesthetics of your smile without removing much substance from the natural tooth.

Implant-supported prostheses (Implantbridge for All-on-4 / on-6)

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 6

Fixed dentures

A fixed implant bridge on four or six implants replaces all teeth permanently and offers maximum support as well as a natural appearance, full chewing function and a confident smile in everyday life.

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 4

Removable dentures

An implant-supported, removable prosthesis combines easy cleaning with significantly better retention than conventional prostheses and offers noticeably more stability in everyday life.

Dentures

Full dentures

In the event of complete tooth loss in the upper or lower jaw, a full denture replaces all teeth. Modern full dentures fit securely, look natural and enable normal chewing and clear pronunciation.

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 7

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace several missing teeth and are attached to the remaining natural teeth. They are a cost-effective alternative to fixed dentures for larger gaps between teeth.

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 1

Telescopic prostheses

Telescopic dentures are removable, but offer an exceptionally firm hold on the patient's own teeth thanks to double crowns. They do not require visible metal clasps and are comfortable to wear.

Icon Treatment spectrum dentures – 9

Attachment prostheses

Attachment dentures are attached to crowns or bridges using precise anchoring elements. This invisible connection ensures a stable fit and high esthetics without any annoying clasps.

I can HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Dr. Quidenus is competent and friendly. He has new machines and I think that makes a big difference. I didn't have anything serious, just fillings, but I still felt very comfortable in the practice. The whole team is extremely nice and helpful.

Dental prosthesis costs in Vienna: transparent information

The cost of dentures depends on several factors: the type of restoration, the material chosen, the extent of the treatment and the number of teeth to be replaced. Fixed dentures such as crowns and bridges are generally more expensive than removable dentures, but offer greater comfort and better aesthetics.

As an elective doctor’s practice, we bill you directly for our services and you receive a detailed invoice for submission to your health insurance company. ÖGK will then reimburse you 80 percent of the contract doctor rates reduced by the deductible. The advantage lies in the free choice of appointments, longer treatment times without time pressure and the use of the latest technologies for individual solutions. Before treatment begins, we will provide you with a transparent cost estimate so that you know exactly what your investment will be.

High-quality dentures are an investment in your health and quality of life that not every patient can afford in one go. Many of our patients use installment payment models to spread the costs over a longer period of time. The tax deductibility of dental prosthesis costs as an extraordinary expense can also ease the financial situation. Talk to us openly during your consultation – together we will find a solution that makes medical sense and is feasible for you.

Frequently asked questions about dentures

High-quality crowns and bridges last a very long time with good care. The average durability is 15-25 years, some restorations even last significantly longer. Decisive factors are the material, your oral hygiene and regular check-ups at the dentist. All-ceramic crowns made of zirconium oxide are considered to be particularly durable and fracture-resistant.

Dental bridge:

  • Faster and cheaper than implants
  • No surgery necessary
  • Requires grinding of the healthy neighboring teeth
  • Does not prevent bone resorption

Implant:

  • Keeps neighboring teeth intact
  • Prevents bone loss in the jaw
  • More durable and natural
  • Higher costs and surgical intervention required

The best solution depends on your findings, the condition of the neighboring teeth and your priorities. We will advise you individually.

The crown restoration is carried out in several steps:

  • Initial appointment: examination, consultation, treatment plan
  • Preparation: Tooth is ground under local anesthesia
  • Impression: Digital scan for custom-fit fabrication
  • Temporary restoration: Temporary crown protects the prepared tooth
  • Fitting: checking the fit and aesthetics
  • Integration: Permanent cementation of the finished crown

There are about 7-14 days between preparation and insertion for the laboratory fabrication.

No, the treatment is performed under local anesthesia and is painless. During the preparation you will only feel pressure and vibration, but no pain. After the anesthetic has worn off, the tooth may be slightly sensitive for a few days, which can be easily treated with mild painkillers. For anxious patients, we also offer twilight sleep or general anesthesia for a completely relaxed treatment.

Yes, after a familiarization phase you can eat almost normally with a well-fitted denture. Modern dentures allow you to chew most foods:

  • For complete dentures: Initially softer food recommended, significant improvement after 2-4 weeks
  • For partial dentures: Faster acclimatization, as own teeth are retained
  • Implant-supported dentures: Offer the best hold and chewing comfort like natural teeth

Very hard or sticky foods should be avoided permanently.

Getting used to a full denture takes different lengths of time depending on the individual, typically 2-8 weeks. In the first few days, the denture will feel strange and you will have to relearn how to speak and chew. Increased salivation and a slight feeling of pressure are normal and will disappear over time. Your confidence in eating and speaking will improve continuously. Regular check-ups help us to adjust the prosthesis optimally and avoid pressure points.

Porcelain veneers (ceramic):

  • Ultra-thin ceramic shells produced in the laboratory
  • Maximum aesthetics and light transmission
  • Very durable (10-20 years)
  • Do not discolor, stain resistant
  • Higher costs (approx. 800-1,500 euros per veneer)

Composite veneers (plastic):

  • Plastic layers applied directly to the tooth
  • Cheaper (approx. 250-400 euros)
  • May discolor over time
  • Shorter shelf life (5-7 years)
  • Can be completed in one session

We recommend ceramic veneers for long-lasting results.

No, high-quality all-ceramic crowns are practically indistinguishable from natural teeth. Modern ceramics such as zirconium oxide or lithium disilicate have the same translucency as real tooth enamel. The color, shape and surface structure are individually adapted to your natural teeth. Unlike metal-ceramic crowns, there is no dark metal edge on the gums. The result is a natural, aesthetic smile that no one can tell is a dental prosthesis.

Proper care considerably extends the durability of your dentures:

Fixed dentures (crowns, bridges):

  • Brush thoroughly twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
  • Dental floss or interdental brushes for interdental spaces
  • Regular professional teeth cleaning

Removable dentures:

  • Rinse under running water after every meal
  • Clean daily with a special denture brush and cleaner
  • Soak overnight in water or cleaning solution
  • Brush your own teeth separately

Six-monthly check-ups at the dentist are essential.

If you have a loose or broken crown, you should make an appointment immediately. A loose crown can often be reattached if no new damage has occurred. In the case of a fracture, we will check whether a repair is possible or whether a new crown needs to be made. You should protect the affected area until the appointment and prefer soft food. Keep any broken pieces and bring them with you to the appointment. Prompt treatment will prevent further damage to the tooth.
